Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has expressed displeasure over authourised use of his images on adverts and some criminal elements to defraud the general public
In a statement posted on X on Saturday, Obi said he was aware that many individuals and organisations had used his image without permission to endorse various products, some of which have been linked to fraudulent schemes.
The former Anambra State governor said that despite repeated denials by his media team, the misuse of his images had continued unabated. He noted that some of these unauthorised promotions were being exploited by “unscrupulous persons” to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
“Ordinarily, I would gladly support any genuine endeavour by Nigerians that contributes positively to our nation and to the people involved, but not without authorisation,” Obi stated.
“For this reason, I wish to state categorically that I am not associated with any of these advertisements,” he said. “This has therefore compelled me to once again caution the public to exercise vigilance and to disregard any such adverts linking me to products, endorsements, or business schemes.”
The formee Labour Party Presidential Candidate warned against the unauthorised use of his images, particularly AI-generated photos, in online advertisements and product promotions.
