After almost a month, His Royal Highness Eze George Ekeh, Chinyere Igwebe, and seven others reportedly failed to respond to an invitation by the Inspector General of Police regarding a case of alleged criminal conspiracy, cultism, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause breach of peace, the public is asking if their purported negligence of the said invitation is not an affront to the office of the Inspector General of Police?
Following trending news in the public domain that is about a month, office of the Inspector General of Police invited the Traditional Ruler of Ishi Ubomiri, His Royal Highness Eze George Ekeh, Chinyere Igwebe, and nine others over an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, cultism, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, people are asking questions about the outcome of the invitation.
The general public is asking why they reportedly neglected the invitation?. Was it due to sickness? Is it possible for nine of them to be unavailable at the same time due to sickness? Are they trying to bribe their way out of the invitation? Are they untouchable? These and many more are the questions on the lips of many concerned Nigerians.
In a sampled opinion, an Abuja-based media practitioner, Mr. Ola Yusuf, was of the view that they are daring the office of the Inspector General of Police, he called for additional charges against them, saying from their action they are already daring the IG.
He also called on the police to use force to bring them for investigation on the alleged charges against them.
In the words of an Abuja-based lawyer, Mr. Victor Akpan, "If this is true, they are daring the office of the Inspector General of Police. It is a serious offense not to honour an invitation by a law enforcement agency on issues concerning criminal conspiracy, cultism, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
Observers and analysts are also asking why His Royal Highness, Eze George Ekeh, Chinyere Igwebe, and nine others neglected the invitation by the Inspector General of Police in an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, cultism, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace?
In the opinion of Mr. Emeka Osuji, "If they have not responded to the invitation after a month, it may not be wrong to say; they are daring the office of the I.G or indirectly telling him he won't do anything. If they fail to honour the invitation, their credibility and willingness to cooperate with the police are questionable."
When called upon, Mr Paul Ohiri from Mbaitoli said, "The essence of a police invitation is to seek cooperation in investigating allegations, gather information about the case, clarify facts and circumstances, and potentially take further action based on findings. Their inability to honour the invitation puts a big question mark on their motive and actions."
A police source who does not want his name mentioned said, "When this kind of delay or negligence happens, it may mean the suspects are highly connected, they may be running from pillar to post to cover up or play down the invitation. Is a bad precedence If neglected another person may follow their foot steps to neglect invitation by the Inspector General of Police in future.
The invitation dated 8th January 2026 reads: "Letter of Invitation, Re: A case of criminal conspiracy, cultism, threat to life, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. This office is investigating the above-mentioned case in which your name and nine others were mentioned. In view of the above, you are kindly requested to report for an interview with the undersigned through the CSP, Majiradi B. Obisiji, Louis Edet House Force Headquarters Abuja on Thursday, 15 January 2026, by 11Hrs at the first floor Louis Edet House force headquarters. Together with Mrs. Chinyere Igwebe, Eze Emmanuel Saint George Ugorji, Mr. Calistus Amuchienwa, Mr. Theophilus Amuchienwa, Mrs. Vero Nee Amuchienwa, Mr. Onye, Mrs. Chioma, Mrs. Theresa Amuchienwa, Emeka Osuji, to shed more light on the above allegations."
An indigene of Ishi Ubomiri in his late sixties who does not want his name mentioned,
hinted that when news of the I.G invitation filtered into the village, there was a purported quiet but quick royal move to sweep it under the carpet.
This same source who appears to be close to the palace hinted how the monarch reportedly boasted to be untouchable with all connection and resources it takes to sweep the police invitation under the carpet, saying; is almost a month the invitation was made yet nothing has happened.
As the IG invitation faces what appears like deliberate disdain in the eyes of the public, with no record of compliance particularly from the monarch and Chinyere, observsers are of the view that his purported negligence to the invitation may be a signal that he reportedly boasted to be untouchable as hinted by sources close to the palace.
