Indigenes Vow to Drag Richard Amaonu to ICPC, EFCC over Alleged Land Grabbing in Industrial Area

Concerned indigenes of Umuezuo Naze, Owerri North LGA, have vowed not to leave any stone unturned in their determination to drag a developer, Mr. Richard Amaonu, to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of land grabbing in their community, particularly in areas not acquired by the government.

According to those who spoke to Daily News Alert, they alleged that he is issuing allocations to people in a built-up area at Naze Industrial Cluster.

An indigene of the area, Mr. Frank Opara, alleged that there is no valid official document from any government agency backing his action.

He also alleged that there is no document from the Ministry of Industry to support it.

Indigenes of Umuezuo Naze and other observers in the area are sensing foul play in the allegations.

In the words of Mr. Chima Ugorji alleged that Amaonu is going around their area looking for empty land and, once he sees one, he issues an allocation paper to the highest bidder.

Another  indigene of the area, who identified himself as Mr. Ken Ekeh, alleged that Mr. Amaonu mapped out some areas within the community and began to sell them to individuals.

He is of the view that the areas allegedly sold by Amaonu are not government-acquired areas.

He called on relevant government agencies to investigate Amaonu over allegations of going around the village, picking empty plots, and issuing allocation papers to people.

Others who spoke called on the Ministry of Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, as well as the Ministry of Mines, Industry, and Solid Minerals, to look into his activities and call him to order.

Some have vowed to drag him to customary court, while others are threatening to report him to ICPC for alleged land grabbing and sharp practices.

They expressed strong conviction that the Ministry of Industry, Mines, and Solid Minerals is not aware of his activities.

Others were of the view that he is committing financial crimes by selling people's land, and Amaonu, as a developer or contractor, never acquired the areas he is allegedly selling to people.
