Jubilation in Ow. Municipal as Chiwuike Uche, emerges Youth Chair. Umuonyeche Auto. Comm.
It was an atmosphere of jubilation in Owerri Municipal as Mr Chiwuike Uche, emerged Youth Chairman of Umuonyeche Autonomous Community in a keenly contested election.
The after accreditation, of registered voters, started around 10am first with agents of all the aspirants, after that the kindreds in Umuonyeche began to vote in order of seniority, starting from Umuonuri, Umujiaku, Umuedede, Umuanu, Umuokorie and Ndiokike.
Speaking at the election venue, the newly Chairman Mr. Chiwuike Uche, described it as a happy election, free and fair without any form of provocation, agitation or rejection, from any angle or against any person.
His words; ' the process was credible, the organisers were sincere and straightforward in their approach to issues , we have been looking forward for this kind of credible election in the past five to six years, finally it came with a unique set of tested and trusted youths known for their credibility and accountability , it met all the expectations of a credible poll in this category.
I want to seize this opportunity to remind all the contestants both winners and losers that this is a brotherly election, is not a winner takes it all contest, both the winners and losers should come together and work for the betterment of Umuonyeche Autonomous Community. I know is not easy to contest election, a lot of resources have gone into printing of posters , campaign and other logistics. I will run an open door administration to give the losers a sense of belonging as it is inline with my agenda to carry all Umuonyeche youths along in the scheme of things
Umuonyeche youths are peaceful and hospitable , I deeply appreciate their massive support and trust in my ability to pilot the youth affairs of the community, I promise not to disappoint the confidence they reposed in me".
Adding his voice Mr Chinedum Ejelonu , who won the seat of Director of Socials, appreciated Umuonyeche youths for their level of comportment, stating that he is totally pleased there was no disagreement,
confrontation. it was under a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere .
He promised to discharge his duties with the best of his abilities, without bias or favoritism, assuring that public interest will always override personal interest .
According to him, peace unity and progress of Umuonyeche and how to collectively move it to a higher level will be his primary focus.
He called on Umuonyeche Youths not to relent in their undiluted support for the chairman and his entire EXCO , assuring that they are well prepared for quality service delivery that will make lasting impacts in Umuonyeche Autonomous Community.
Others who spoke rated the process free, fair and credible , they also scored the State Observer, Hon. Nze Chinasa Nwaneri high for his financial and moral support to Umuonyeche Youth Association.
There was also heavy presence of Security operatives who were present to maintain peace and orderliness during the election.
The winners and their positions included;
Ejelonu Chinedum, who emerged as the Director of Socials, Chukwudi Okoronkwo, emerged as Financial Secretary, Geoffrey Nwadike, won the post of Treasurer , Chibueze Anoweh, won the position of Assistant Secretary , Amuzie Uchenna George, won the post of Secretary,
Philip Ezechukwu, won the position of Vice Chairman,while Chiwuike Uche, won the position of Chairman with 151 to beat his closest rival, Godson Mere, who pulled a total of 101 votes.
Before the commencement of voting, the Electoral Committee Chairman, Mr Philip Oguamanam, assured them of transparent and credible election that will be a shining example in the community and a template for others to follow.
There were unpossessed positions they included; Provost 1, Provost 2 and Public Relations Officer, PRO.
Election observers from Imo State Government, election observers from Imo State Ministry of Youths and Sports and Local Observers from Owerri Municipal Council Headquarters, were on time to monitor accreditation and voting process, they all rated the process credible and commended the youths for their compartment and high level of maturity
