LIONS CLUB HONORS COMM FOR WOMEN AFFAIRS ABIA STATE DR. MAUREEN AGHUKWA FOR HUMANITARIAN SERVICE

The Owerri Eye Care Professionals Lions Club, District 404-A2, Nigeria, recently honored Dr. Mrs. Maureen Ijeoma Aghukwa, Hon. Commissioner for Women Affairs, Abia State, with a humanitarian service award during a public presentation and fundraising ceremony held at Tripod by Pedestal Hotel, Owerri.

The event, which took place on Sunday, 9th November, 2025, also marked the investiture of Lion Dr. Chigoziri Chidimma Nwosu as the Charter President of the club, and the installation of club officers and induction of new members.

Dr. Aghukwa, who received the award, expressed her gratitude and congratulated Lion Dr. Nwosu on her remarkable achievement. She described the investiture as a recognition of Dr. Nwosu's sterling leadership qualities, professionalism, and humanitarian spirit.

In her remarks, Dr. Aghukwa said, "I give great pleasure to extend my heartfelt goodwill message to Lion Dr. Chigoziri Chidimma Nwosu on this remarkable occasion of her investiture as the Charter President of the Owerri Eye Care Professionals Lions Club. This investiture is not only a recognition of your exceptional leadership qualities, but also a call to greater service to humanity."

Dr. Aghukwa praised Dr. Nwosu's commitment to improving lives, particularly through eye care and community service, saying it aligns with the values of empathy, excellence, and empowerment upheld by the Ministry of Women Affairs, Abia State.

She described Dr. Nwosu's emergence as Charter President as an inspiration to many, especially young women aspiring to lead with integrity and impact. "Your accomplishments are a testament to what women can achieve when passion meets purpose," she said.

Dr. Aghukwa also viewed the award given to her as a call to do more, saying, "This award is a reminder that there is more to be done, and I am committed to continuing to serve humanity, particularly women and children, with compassion and dedication."

The event was attended by dignitaries, including government officials, community leaders, and members of the Lions Club. The fundraising ceremony aimed to support the club's humanitarian projects, including eye care initiatives and community development programs.
