Open Letter to the Inspector General of Police
TITLE, call to investigate HRH George Ekeh of Ubomiri on perceived questionable silence over the continuous tension Exhumation of Late Chief Donatus Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa generated in his community
Sir,
I am writing in my capacity as the Imo State Chairman of the Guild of Newspaper Reporters, Imo State Chapter, a reputable media group recognised by Nigerian Union of Journalist in the state, I wish to draw your attention to a pressing matter that requires your immediate intervention. A situation has unfolded in Ubomiri Autonomous Community under the headship of His Royal Highness, Eze George Ekeh, which has built heavy tension in the community and kept it on the verge of explosion.
This is a passionate appeal invite, investigate, interrogate, and possibly prosecute His Royal Highness Eze George Ekeh of Ubomiri regarding the continuous tension generated by the purported forceful exhumation of the body of Late Chief Donatus Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa. Please see this as an urgent call to look into his alleged questionable silence or alleged conspiracy regarding the heavy tension surrounding the purported forceful exhumation of Ifeanyichukwu Donatus Amuchienwa with vigilantes in his community at an odd hour after allegedly breaking into the compound, this has become pertinent due to the public outcry over what is viewed as the forceful exhumation of the body of Late Chief Donatus Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa and the tension it has generated. It is generally believed that he has maintained an unexplainable silence regarding the heavy tension surrounding the exhumation of Ifeanyichukwu Donatus Amuchienwa with the vigilantes.
The general public is of the view that the exhumation is a desecration of the deceased. They also believe that the monarch did nothing to avert the escalation of the issues surrounding the burial of Late Chief Donatus Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa, despite having the capacity to ensure peace as the number one citizen of the community. As the chief security officer of his community, it is his duty to ensure the safety and security of his subjects. However, indigenes of the community allege that the vigilantes came in a commando manner and broke into the compound for exhumation at odd hours of the night.
Obviously, his silence on this matter has raised serious concerns with suspicions about his alleged conspiracy to oppress the widow of the deceased, his purported involvement, or perceived complicity in the escalation of the tension. The general public is also questioning the role of the vigilantes involved in the exhumation and calling for necessary disciplinary action if they do not have the authority for such action.
Media Observers and stakeholders calling for a full investigation into the matter, including any alleged role Eze George Ekeh and the vigilantes played directly or indirectly.
The exhumation viewed as forceful and questionable has sparked a heated debate about the role of traditional rulers in community affairs and their responsibility to maintain peace and order and sides they take to oppress the weak and poor. It has also raised concerns about the activities of vigilante groups in the community and the need for them to be regulated.
Sir, is vital to inform you about reports in the public domain that Eze George purportedly suspended the Chairman of Umuawam village for attending the deceased's burial kindly investigate if the monarch is not helping to oppress the poor and weakor escalate tension in the community. The media is calling on IG to compel Eze George Ekeh to provide answers to many questions surrounding the purported exhumation, in respect to his alleged actions and inaction including why he suspended the village chairman of Umuawam Village for attending the burial.
The situation remains heavily tense, with the public awaiting the outcome of the police investigation and calling for justice to be served.
Points to note on this matter are:
- The purported forceful exhumation of Late Chief Donatus Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa has built heavy tension and sparked widespread outrage, with questions raised about Eze George Ekeh's deliberate silence or questionable role that reportedly escalated the crisis.

- Invite His Royal Highness Eze George Ekeh for questioning regarding his silence on the tension building up in community,
- Investigate any alleged role by him in the exhumation of the body of late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Donatus Amuchienwa and the role of vigilantes
- Determine whether His Royal Highness has breached any laws or traditional protocols, posecute His Royal Highness if found guilty of any wrongdoing
