Open Letter to Imo State First Lady, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma to intervene on oppression of a widow Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa

By Chris Emecheta

I write to you as a seasoned Journalist, to bring to your attention the pliful case of Widow Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa.

She is the legally married wife of Late Donatus Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa, from Ubomiri, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State with evidence of   court wedding. The marriage took place after he duly divorce Chinyere Igwebe, formerly Chinyere Amuchienwa.  Is on record that the deceased made a video about the divorce in the presence of his lawyer, he also returned   her drinks to her kinsmen in line with Igbo customs and tradition of divorcing a married woman. The divorce took place over 30 years ago.

After the demise of Donatus Ifeanyichukwu  Amuchienwa, Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa, her legally married wife has faced oppression, suppression, frustration, molestation, and harassment from, Chinyere Igwebe. (formerly Chinyere Amuchienwa), simply because she felt she is highly connected and has all it takes to frustrate the legally married wife of the deceased.

The widow's ordeal started when she fixed the burial date of her late husband, a date approved and fully endorsed by Amuchienwa Family Head, Pastor Goddy Amuchienwa.  Shortly after the date was made public, Chinyere Igwebe who was divorced over 30 years ago, never came around or helped the deceased in any manner during the few years he was on the sick bed battling stroke and kidney failure, suddenly surfaced, calling for cancellation of the burial date with  mischievousness and immunity that the deceased will not be buried.

A legal suit started from Magistrate Court, which the Court declined jurisdiction, shortly after that, she orchestrated their arrest at the Court premises, as soon as they came out from Court, they were taken to Tiger Base, her motive was to detain her in police custody and make her unavailable at the burial of her late husband. After the head of Tiger Base ACP Ola saw the truth and intimidation against Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa, she released them to go and bury their dead, stating that the deceased should be buried He equally gave them security to avoid any form of molestation from any other quarters. From  Tiger Base, this same woman ran  to High Court, which granted an exhumation order.

The order sparked widespread concern and outrage among the people of Imo State, simply because Chinyere made a post that signalled joy, anticipated outcome, as well as mockery of the widow.

Looking at the circumstances surrounding  the order and  how it's contents sparked wide spread concern and outrage because of the manner her opppresors celebrated it and mocked her, the public were displeased, the impression in public domain is that she's felt she is more influential and highly connected more than Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa and can leverage on her connection to the high and mighty to torment her as it pleases her. The plight of Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa calls for more investigation and intervention. Those who saw the Court Order  as a blatant attempt to perpetuate injustice and oppression may not be wrong because of the celebration it received from Chinyere Igwebe,

I, strongly believe that the Court was deceived before giving the order , some Media Observers and analysts also share  this view with me.  I sense there's misinformation and misrepresentation, I  believe in the  capacity and strength of character of Imo State Acting Chief Judge, His Lordship, Justice Ijeoma Agugua, from her antecedents and behavioural manifestations, she's does not appear like one who can act under control of  influencial people, nepotism or any form of influence.  Anybody can be deceived, no matter your position and experienced in the journey of life.

Your Excellency, many are not comfortable with the quiteness of the traditional ruler of her community, it appears there's a conspiracy of silence to molest, oppress, and frustrate this widow, hence your intervention is vital to save her.

The deceased was an illustrious son of Ubomiri, he provided the first borehole water for the community and partnered with the state government during the era of former Governor Achike Udenwa. He doesn't deserve this disgrace from wicked and mischievous people.

Chinyere Igwebe has used every trick in the book to stop the burial, and now seeks an exhumation order, claiming to be a former wife of the deceased.

However, the widow and her family maintain that Chinyere Igwebe is no longer a legitimate wife of the deceased and has no locus or right to interfere with the burial granted exhumation order.

The people are questioning her locus on this matter and demanding answers as to why she was able to obtain a court order against the corpse of a man who rejected her while alive.

I urge you to intervene and put an end to the continuous dragging of the innocent widow from one court to another. She needs peace to mourn her late husband, who was a man of dignity, decency, and influence.

The controversy has sparked a heated debate on social media, with many calling for your intervention. Imo people believe that your good intervention can help resolve this issue amicably and ensure that Ogechi Henrietta Amuchienwa is allowed to mourn her husband in peace.

I further appeal to the Imo State Government to investigate the circumstances surrounding her molestation and ensure that those responsible are brought to book.

Please, Your Excellency, don't allow this Clarion call to be in vain.
