OCDA Brutality on Ekete, a call to end OCDA rascality with sanity and justice

By Chuks Nwokej

The brutal actions of the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) taskforce have left a trail of destruction and pain in Imo State, Nigeria. The latest victim, Mr. Steve Ekete, is a stark reminder of the agency's egregious human rights abuses. Ekete's harrowing experience, which nearly cost him his life, is a testament to the OCDA's unchecked power and disregard for human dignity.

The OCDA's brazen disregard for the law is evident in its actions. Invading Ekete's construction site, beating him mercilessly, and seizing his property without justification are just a few examples of the agency's lawlessness. The involvement of police officers in the assault only adds to the outrage, highlighting the deep-seated corruption and complicity that enables these abuses.

Governor Hope Uzodinma's silence on the matter is deafening. As the state's chief security officer, he is duty-bound to protect citizens from harm, not stand idly by while they are brutalized by state agencies. The people of Imo State demand answers: will Uzodinma take action against the OCDA and its brutal taskforce, or will he continue to turn a blind eye?

The OCDA's actions are not isolated incidents but part of a larger pattern of abuse. Reports of extortion, harassment, and intimidation are rampant, with the agency's taskforce terrorizing developers, site workers, and engineers. The GM Team, in particular, has become synonymous with brutality, leaving a trail of destruction and fear in its wake.

The international community is watching, and the people of Imo State will not be silenced. We demand justice for Ekete and all victims of OCDA brutality. We call on Governor Uzodinma to take immediate action:

- Investigate and prosecute OCDA officials involved in human rights abuses

- Provide compensation to victims and their families

- Disband the OCDA taskforce and reform the agency

- Ensure accountability and transparency in government agencies

The struggle for justice and human rights continues. We will not rest until the people of Imo State are free from the grip of OCDA brutality and can live with dignity.
