When a personality in leadership position displays good works, he deserves commendation. On the other side of the coin, when he displays bad works he gets knocks and condemnation, this brings us to the verdict of Imo State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ijeoma Agugua that invalidated the exhumation of Late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Donatus Amuchienwa. From public perception, it has been described as a welcome development, worthy of commendation.

Without mincing words, Imo State Acting Chief Judge, Justice Ijeoma Agugua, deserves a standing ovation for invalidating the exhumation of Late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa carried out by his separated wife of over 32 years, Chinyere Igwegbe, in a commando manner. Her verdict means a lot, both to her image, the judiciary, and the defendant's family. Based on impressions they created in the public domain, they behaved as people who have bought over the judiciary and are now entitled to do anything that pleases them with impunity.

In some of their side comments, 'is it not judiciary, give them money they will give judgement, money talks bullshit happens'. There is also information in the public domain that before the exhumation Order was issued, HRH Eze Ekeh reportedly announced it about two or three weeks prior to the order in one of the palace council meetings where he suspended the Village Chairman of Amauburu for attending the burial. When contacted, the monarch said he was suspended for allowing Hausa people to dig the grave. His response was later proven to be total falsehood, as the Rev Father that buried him, an indigene of Amauburu, testified in a chat with dailynewsalert that youths of Amauburu Village dug the grave.

By her verdict, she has erased the impression in the public domain that they have allegedly bought her with a huge amount of money. The verdict has proven that there is still hope for the common man. Oppressors of the legitimate wife of the deceased are wealthy in billions and are highly connected; they saw her as a daughter of a nobody and concluded they would crush her with injustice.

There is no doubt that the Exparte Order granted to exhume Late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Donatus Amuchienwa is a matter that can make or mar the Acting Chief Judge, depending on the angle of inclination. By her verdict, she has proven that she was not bribed; she has saved herself from shame and allegations of abuse of office.

Shortly after her verdict with clear instruction to provide the whereabouts of the alleged stolen corpse, the outcome was greeted with widespread praise for invalidating the exhumation of Late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa carried out by Chinyere Igwegbe in a commando and alleged criminal manner in the midnight of 23rd December, 2025.

The decision has been hailed as a victory for justice and a testament to the judiciary's commitment to upholding the law.

The exhumation was ordered in response to a petition by Chinyere Igwegbe, the deceased's separated wife of over 32 years, who mischievously alleged that her former husband was stabbed to death. However, many have questioned the legitimacy of the exhumation order, citing lack of evidence and procedural irregularities.

The Acting Chief Judge's decision to invalidate the exhumation has been welcomed by the general public, Amuchienwa family, and their supporters, who had argued that the exhumation was an attempt to humiliate and harass them. The family had also expressed concerns about the handling of the deceased's body and the potential for tampering with evidence.

The controversy surrounding the exhumation has sparked widespread outrage with calls for greater accountability and transparency in the judicial process. Many have praised the Acting Chief Judge for her courage and commitment to justice, despite facing intense pressure and scrutiny.

The case has also raised questions about the role of traditional rulers and their involvement in such matters, as the Traditional Ruler of Ishi Ubomiri, His Royal Highness, Eze George Ekeh, was fingered in supporting Chinyere Igwegbe's bid to exhume the body with impunity. This compelled headship of some  media groups such as, Guild of Newspaper Reporters, Forum of Imo Newspaper Columnists, FINC, Imo Media Observers Forum( IMOF)  to raise alarm and calld on Imo State First Lady, Barr. Chioma Uzodimma, Catholic Arch Bishop of Owerri, Arch Bishop Lucius Ugorji, and NJC via open letters for intervention.

Evangelist Ebuka Obi is another strong voice that gave impectus to clarion call for justice for desecreted body of Late Chief Ifeanyichukwu Amuchienwa with an end to the oppression and intimidation of his legitmate wife.He publicly condemned it and declared that those behind it will not know peace until justice is served. His  promise of legal assistance was a big positve development that gave the call for justice both national and global attention

The exhumation was carried out in the midnight of 23rd December 2025, by Chinyere Igwegbe's lawyer, VC Uwalaka, with the help of community vigilantes allegedly provided by HRH George Ekeh. The actions of Chinyere Igwegbe and her accomplices have been widely condemned, and many are calling for justice, accountability, and her imprisonment in line with the extant laws of the land.

The Catholic Church has also condemned the exhumation, calling it an "unpardonable insult" and a "desecration of the deceased's body". The church had given Chief Amuchienwa a dignified burial, and his legitimate wife was considered a worthy Christian.

Media investigation into the matter is ongoing, and authorities have been urged to bring all the perpetrators to justice. After the verdict, keen observers who know that Chinyere Igwegbe has no locus to institute such a matter, as well as the family of the deceased, have expressed satisfaction with the court's ruling and have called for the prosecution of those involved in the exhumation.

The decision of Justice Agugua is a reminder that justice can prevail when courage and integrity are applied. Let it also be known to my lordship that the invalidation is not enough until the perpetrators receive commensurate legal punishment or jail terms. Your lordship, the case will continue to be closely watched by the media, and many are eager to see justice served for those who deceived the court.
